Brisbane Lifesaving Service (BLS) provides Brisbane residents with the unique opportunity to learn lifesaving skills and patrol one of South-East Queensland’s beautiful beaches.
BLS members are trained in a variety of lifesaving skills including surf awareness, first aid, rescue and resuscitation while working towards the completion of a nationally-recognised Bronze Medallion qualification.
Theory is taught locally at Surf Rescue House in South Brisbane, and members travel to the Gold or Sunshine Coast for practical training in the surf.
BLS offers its members a range of personal and professional development opportunities which few other volunteer organisations can match.
As a volunteer surf lifesaver, you will become part of an iconic Australian organisation with more than 100 years of history behind it. Have fun, form new friendships and keep fit while giving back to the community and learning vital safety skills that could one day save a life – both on and off the beach.
As a BLS member, you won’t be expected or required to patrol every weekend. Rather, you’ll have the opportunity to patrol a variety of beaches and locations on a rotational basis at your convenience across the summer season.
BLS also offers members unique personal development and community service opportunities beyond the initial surf lifesaving Bronze Medallion. Participants will also have the opportunity to move into more specialist areas on completion of their training including rescue water craft, communications and the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter Rescue Service to name a few.
